Oil, 10 x 13 1/2 inches. Roy Brown began his career in Chicago as an illustrator for the Chicago Tribune. Around 1900, he moved to New York and enrolled in the Art Students League before traveling to France where he studied at the Académie Julian. Brown was President of the American Watercolor Society from 1939 to 1944 and Vice President of the National Academy of Design from 1949 to 1950. This particular piece is double-sided so you will actually get two landscapes for the price of one.

Kate’s work was featured in the Museum’s In Place: Contemporary Photographers Envision a Museumexhibition last year. She has recently been commissioned by Starwood Hotels for 160 works to be displayed in their locations throughout London.

Etching, 6 x 9 inches, after 1919. After studying in Paris, Sears Gallagher became a well-known painter, etcher, and teacher in the Boston area. He frequented Monhegan Island and was much inspired by the surrounding landscape. He has over 200 etchings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection, in addition to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Honolulu Academy of Art.

Since then she began studying drawing and painting at the New York Botanical Garden and most recently at the Wellesley College Botanic Garden, where she was awarded a Certificate in Botanical Art and Illustration. Her work was featured in a small exhibition during the Museum’s GardenFest in June.

Marble, 18 1/2 x 12 inches. Sculptor Joan Hagen Ross attended Vassar College and then studied art in New York and Connecticut. She continued her training with Bruno Luchessi and Jane Armstrong, among others, both in the States and abroad. She has been sculpting for over 35 years and is the recipient of many national awards. She is a fellow of the National Sculpture Society, and her works are in many private and public collections in the U.S. and abroad.

Five mixed-media collage/assemblages created in the small drawers of a wooden 1920s Mah-jongg game, along with storage box and display easel. Approx. 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches. Four of the works (built in top drawers) are based on each of the Mah-jongg wind tiles (north, east, west, and south). The fifth (bottom drawer) is based on the three dragon tiles (red, green, and white). Made of mostly found objects, the collage/assemblages were created by the Museum’s Director of Education & Outreach David D.J. Rau to echo this year’s Benefit Auction theme.
