Beautiful displays don't stop in the galleries. The Shop has its own collection of riches. It offers the finest selection of art books on the Connecticut shoreline as well as posters, postcards, and notecards displaying some of the best-loved images in American art. Also offered for sale are jewelry and fine crafts by artists inspired by the shapes and colors of the natural world much as the artists of the Lyme Art Colony were. Fine papers, pencils, oils and watercolors offer shoppers the possibility of sketching in the beautiful gardens and gentle marshes surrounding the Museum. Art books, toys and old-fashioned books for children make The Shop complete.

Flounder In: Fishers Island Sketches with Charles Ferguson
Charles B. Ferguson, was born in 1918 on Fishers Island, New York. He studied with Frank Vincent DuMond at the Art Students League of New York, and for many years taught studio and history of art at secondary schools. Ferguson was Director of the New Britain Museum of American Art, from 1965 to 1984. Throughout his career as both teacher and museum director, he continued to paint, sketch, and work in wood. He has won a number of awards for his paintings, including First Prize in Oils at the Mystic Maritime Gallery’s International Exhibition. He is represented in private, corporate, and museum collections worldwide.

Join us for a lecture and presentation of Flounder In. This work showcases watercolor sketches from the past six summers on Fishers Island, to which he returns every year. He feels that these 4 x 6 inch sketches are his best work, thanks to their spontaneity. They are accompanied by Haiku-like poetry capturing their essence.

Book available in The Shop.
