Film Series: Monsters for Their Time Dracula
September 15, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
$5.00 – $18.00
In a series of three lecture/film screenings, Mark J. Schenker of Yale College considers the 1931 film versions of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, and Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, both as tales of horror and as reflections on the fears and concerns of the contemporary moviegoers of their day. Schenker discusses each film’s history and filming techniques while showing ample excerpts from each to help participants see how a film functions as a work of art.
A complete screening of each day’s film will take place at 1pm, prior to the class.
Series Fee: $18 (members $12); Individual Talk Fee: $7 (members $5)
