GALLERY TALK: The Butcher, the Baker, & the (Un)Domestic Goddess: Femininity in Dana Sherwood’s Art

July 6 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

with Jenny Parsons, Ph.D., Associate Curator

Free with Museum Admission

The subject of femininity is ripe for analysis in Dana Sherwood’s multimedia practice. Hear how the artist draws on ideas from myth, literature, and fairy tales to embrace and challenge ideas about gender. From her delicate pastel palette and elegantly presented banquets, to Alice in Wonderland grinding meat for sausage, to all-seeing equestrienne goddesses, Sherwood endows her female heroines with an audacity to push beyond the “domestic sphere” towards adventure.
