ONLINE LECTURE: Fashioning Women’s Suffrage

Please note: this program has regrettably been cancelled. Should we be able to reschedule we will update accordingly. Thank you for your understanding.

“How Suffragists Used Dress to Win the Vote”

with Heather Prescott, Professor of History at Central Connecticut State University

The year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the Suffrage movement that lead to the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote. Contrary to stereotypes, many suffragists were fashionable women. They used chic attire and suffrage-themed accessories to advance their cause. They hoped to “sell” the movement by affiliating it with femininity, good looks, and style. This historic centennial offers an unparalleled opportunity to commemorate a milestone of democracy and to explore its relevance to the issues of equal rights today.

The lecture will take place virtually via GoTo Webinar and a link to access the event will be sent when participants register.
