Pen to Paper: Artists’ Handwritten Letters
April 29, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
$5.00 – $7.00
Even in this age of emails, texts, and tweets, there is an ongoing fascination with the simple act of putting pen to paper. Join Mary Savig, Curator of Manuscripts at the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, for a lecture exploring the connection between artists’ handwriting and their styles of making art. Situating these extraordinary letters within the history of penmanship in the United States, Savig will reveal how artists have disrupted conventions in inventive ways, from their casually jotted notes to elaborately decorated epistles.
