Seeing Art History in a New Light

March 14, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

$5.00 – $7.00

Over the past few decades artists who position themselves outside the traditional canon of art history have been producing works that either directly or indirectly subvert the iconic status of “great” Western art. Chris Steiner, Director of Museum Studies Certificate Program at Connecticut College gives an illustrated talk that explores work by contemporary Native American and African American artists (including Marcus Amerman, Kent Monkman, Fred Wilson, and Kehinde Wiley) who challenge us to look at the representation of race, power, and privilege in Western art with new eyes and fresh critical insights.
