VIRTUAL LECTURE: Looking Together: Walks with Fidelia Bridges

June 23, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

$10.00 – $12.00

with Mark D. Mitchell, Holcombe T. Green Curator of American Paintings and Sculpture, Yale University Art Gallery

$12 (members $10)

An early visitor to Old Lyme, Fidelia Bridges (1834– 1923) was admired in her lifetime for inventing “a branch of art entirely her own.” What did she see in the Connecticut landscape that others didn’t? Working— and walking—alone, she found new qualities and meanings in nature that she featured in her landscape and still life paintings in oil and watercolor. Her art brought her contemporaries along with her into the landscape, inviting them to look together in nature.
