Join Dr. Matthew Warshauer, Professor of History at Central Connecticut State University to explore the history and meaning of liberty in America. Take a deep dive into the beginnings of the great experiment in popular government, from infancy to empire.
How do we define liberty? Is it liberty from…or liberty to…? Who gets to decide and how has the notion of liberty been modified throughout the life of our nation? The class will have the opportunity to explore important primary documents and images that speak to the importance of liberty as a guiding force in America’s past and present.
Dr Warshauer holds a Ph.D in American Studies from St. Louis University and is a professor at Central Connecticut State University. He is the author of four books, two on Andrew Jackson and two on Connecticut and the Civil War. He is currently working on several projects, including a book that focuses on the meaning of 9/11.
