Outreach Programs - All Ages
- The Museum will be closed December 24 & 25 for the holiday.
Altered Books
Have a ball making art out of an upcycled older book. One of our most popular classes!
Learn how to turn an unwanted book into a 3-D piece of keepsake art. An abundance of supplies are included in this fun and enriching program. Geared for grades 6 and up; beloved by children and adults alike.
Alternatively, learn how to make your own small bespoke accordion book.
Faerie House Making
Create your own faerie dwelling with natural supplies such as moss, lichens, tree bark, branches, leaves, acorns, and pinecones.
This magical class is fun and welcoming for all ages and skill levels.
The Museum’s annual Wee Faerie Village each autumn is the highlight of the year for many visitors – keep that spirit alive all year long with your own keepsake faerie house!
Paint a Seasonal Scene on a Wooden Palette
Paint a beautiful summer or winter scene on a wooden artist’s palette.
Be inspired by the artists of the Lyme Art Colony, who painted scenes inspired by nature on wooden doors and panels in the historic Griswold boardinghouse, to create your own take-home masterpiece!
Painting: Impressionism 101
Learn how to paint in the style of the Lyme Art Colony artists who lived and worked at Miss Florence Griswold’s boardinghouse (now the Florence Griswold Museum) beginning in 1899.
Beginner to Advanced levels available, for all ages.
Celebrate the Museum’s legacy as the Home of American Impressionism by learning to paint in this beloved style yourself!
Relief Printmaking
Create a quality print similar to a wood block or linoleum print without the sharp tools.
Using a pen, sheets of styrofoam, and special water-soluble paint, images you create are rolled onto colored card stock. The result is frame-worthy art.
Van Gogh printmaking is one of our particular specialties.
Safe and fun for all ages!
Watercolor Monsters
Using watercolor paint and straws, “monsters” emerge from fun watercolor shapes in any color you choose.
Give the creations names, personalities, and decorative accents. Keep them together, or cut them up to create your own monster book with a supplied sketchbook and glue stick!
Delightful for all ages and skill levels.
