The Whitney Biennial is the longest running survey of contemporary art in the US, with a history of exhibiting the most promising and influential artists and provoking lively debate. The 78th Biennial is the first to be held in the Whitney’s downtown home, and the largest ever in terms of gallery space. Our visit will feature a 90-minute guided introduction to the show. There will be time for lunch (on your own) as well as a springtime visit to the High Line.

Lecture: Roberta L. Dougherty, Librarian for Middle East Studies at Yale University Library explores the life of Edward Elbridge Salisbury (1814-1901), a Yale professor. Salisbury was an American pioneer of Oriental studies, the first professor of Arabic and Sanskrit in the Americas, and a founding member of the American Oriental Society, one of the oldest scholarly societies in the United States.
