This talk discusses a particular type of personal memory studied by psychologists: the "self-defining memory," a vivid, emotionally evocative memory that is linked to ongoing themes and/or conflicts in an individual's personality.
Inspired by Winfred Rembert’s autobiographical "Cotton Pickers" in the current exhibition, this lecture series considers the role that dreams and personal histories can play in an artist’s creative work.
