Gardens Aglow—A Silent Auction of Artist-Decorated Lanterns
June 14 - June 16
Friday-Sunday, June 14-16, 2024
Proceeds to Benefit the Museum’s Educational Initiatives
Online Silent Auction
Starting June 14 at 8am, bid here!
Twenty artists accepted the challenge to decorate 20-inch spherical lanterns to be on display in the Museum’s gardens during the annual Blooms with a View event. The re-introduction of lanterns to the campus was the brainchild of Stimson and Associates, the landscape architecture studio responsible for designing the Museum’s Robert F. Schumann Artists’ Trail. Their inspiration came from Lyme Art Colony artist Harry Hoffman’s Harvest Moon Walk (ca. 1912) depicting a gathering of artists and friends along the Lieutenant River. In the painting, the festive merry makers are clad in bright costumes, play instruments, and carry colorful lanterns, each aglow in the moonlit scene.
Bid online beginning at 8am on June 14 until 5pm on June 16. Bidding starts at $100 and continues in $25 increments. Winners can collect their lanterns on Monday, June 17, 10am-4pm, or by appointment thereafter. When bidding opens, bid here!
